Meds dysrhythmias

Procainamide hydrochloride (Pronestyl) Used for AF, WPW, PVCs, VT Monitor BP, monitor for widening QRS complex, prolonged QT or PR interval, or heart block.
Disopyramide phosphate (Norpace) Used for AF, WPW, PVCs, VT Monitor BP, watch for SOB & weight gain. Monitor for widening QRS complex, prolonged QT or PR interval, or heart block.
Lidocaine (Xylocaine) Used for PVCs, VT, VF Watch for confusion, paresthesias, slurring of speech, drowsiness, or seizure activity.
Mexiletine hyrochloride (Mexitil) Used for PVCs, VT, VF Monitor BP & HR. Assess for tremors, blurred vision, dizziness, ataxia, or confusion.
Tocainide hydrochloride (Tonocard) Used for PVCs, VT, VF Watch for tremors. Monitor BP & HR. Teach patient to report SOB, wheezing, CP, or couch, as well as dyspnea & distended neck veins or swelling of the extremities.
Flecainide acetate (Tambocor) Used for AF, PSVT, life-threatening ventricular dysrhythmias. Monitor for an increase in frequency & severity of dysrhythmias. Monitor BP & HR.
Prpafenone hydrochloride (Rhtymol) Used for PAF, WPW, life-threatening ventricular dysrhythmias. Monitor for an increase in dysrhythmias. Monitor BP & HR. Monitor for CNS effects, dizziness, anxiety, ataxia, insomnia, confusion, & seizures, as well as CHF & GI distress.
Propranolol hydrochloride (Inderal) Used for AF, A-flutter, PSVT, PVCs Monitor BP & HR. Assess for SOB or wheezing. Assess for insomnia, fatigue & dizziness.
Acebutolol hydrochloride (Sectral) Used for AF, A-flutter, PSVT, PVCs Monitor BP & HR. Assess for SOB or wheezing. Assess for insomnia, fatigue & dizziness.
Esmolol hydrochloride (Brevibloc) Used for AF, A0flutter, PSVT, PVCs Monitor BP & HR, Assess for SOB or wheezing. Assess for insomnia, fatigue & seizures.
Sotalol hydrochloride (Betapace) Used for AF, PAF, PSVT, life-threatening ventricular dysrhythmias Assess ECG rhythm strip for torsade de pointes & other serious new ventricular dysrhythmias. Assess for fatigue, bradycardia, dyspnea, CHF, CP, hypotension, dizziness, hypoglycemia, N/V.
Sotalol hydrochloride (Betapace) Contraindications Do not administer to pt's with hypokalemia or hypomagnesemia before correcting these imbalances. Contraindicated in pt's w/bronchial asthma, sinus brady, 2nd & 3rd degree heart block, prolonged QT syndrome, cardiogenic shock, or CHF.
Amiodarone hydrochoride (Cordarone) Used for AF, PAF, PSVT, life-threatening ventricular dysrhythmias Use volumetric infusion pump & PVC tubing w/in-line filter & infuse via central line. Rapid loading IV dose must not be administered faster than 10 m. Must stay w/pt & monitor BP & HR. Continually monitor ECG during IV infusion, measure QT.
Amiodarone hydrochloride (Cordarone) Pt teaching Teach pt's to report any muscle weakness, tremors, difficulty ambulating, SOB, cough, pleuritic pain, fever. Report any visual disturbances, & wear sunglasses for photophobia, use sunscreen, report signs of thryroid problems or hepatotoxicity.
