Simple Machines

Six Simple Machines

QuestionAnswer
What is a Wheel & Axle? A simple lifting machine consisting of a rope that unwinds from a wheel into a cylindrical drum or a shaft joined to the wheel.
What is a Simple Lever? A bar resting on a pivot used to help move a heavy or firmly fixed load with one end when pressure is applied to the other side.
What is a Pully? A wheel with a grooved rim around it which a cord passes. It cuts to change the direction of a force applied to the cord and its chiefly.
What is a Simple Incline Plane? It has a flat surface that has one side higher then the other side so it is easyer to push things uphill.
What is a Screw? A short, slender, pointed mental pin object with a spiral thread running around it. These are used to join two objects together.
What is a Wedge? A picece of wood or other material that is driven between two objects to seperate them.
What is a 1st class lever? This has a fulcrum between the points of application of the input and output forces.
What is a 2nd class lever? The fulcrum is at one end of the arm and the input force is applied to the other end.
What is a 3rd class lever? You have to multiply the distance rather than the forces. As a result they have a mechanical advantage of less than one.
