Serotonin degrade inhibitor MAOI for depression. SE: tyramine tox from eating cheese, beer, wine, liver, hypertensive crisis. Can cause drug-drug interactions (P450) Iproniazid, Phenelzine, Isocarboxazid
Reversible MAOI for depression. SE: less tyramine tox Moclobemide, Befloxatone, Brofaromine
Reversible MAOI for depression. SE: less tyramine tox. greater freedom with diet. transdermal Selegiline
TCAs for Depression, pain synds (migraines), orthostat HTN in elders. SE: Heart problems. Contra: Cardiac conduct defects, b/c affect heart Na channels in quinidine-like manner (do ECG prior to prescrip). Amitriptyline (-triptyline), Clomipramine (for OCD also) (-ipramine).
SSRI first line tx for depression, anxiety, OCD. SE: sexual dysfnxl, gi distress. Contra: dont take with MAOI Citalopram, Fluoxetine, Fluvoxamione, Paroxetine (constipation), Sertraline (diarrhea).
SNRI for depression, anxiety. SE: neuroleptic malig synd, hepatitis, HTN, sex dysfx. Venlafaxine, Duloxetine (also for neuropathic pain)
SNRI for Fibromyalgia Milnacipran
Norepi reuptake inhibitor for ADHD. SE: heart attack, weight loss, xerostomia, gi discomfort Atomoxetine
Weakly inhibits serotonin, dopamine and NE for depression and smoking cessation. SE: tachycardia. Contra: seizures, electrolyte imbalance (bulimia/anorexia). Fewest sexual effects Bupropion
potent somnorific as well as appetite stimulant, useful for elderly who have insomnia and weightloss. for depression Mirtazapine
serotonin R agonist for anxiety. nonsedating w/ anxiolytics. nonaddictive. Buspirone
serotonin R agonist for migraines. SE: coronary artery spasm. take at onset not prophylactically -Triptans
Serotonin R ANtag for glaucoma (topically), HTN Ketanserin
5-HT3 antagonist, potent antiemetic adjunct to cancer chemo Ondansetron
5-HT4 antag enhance gi motility to treat IBS constipation. Tegaserod, Prucalopride
5-HT3 antag, decrease serotone tone in intestinal cells --> reduce intest motility to treat IBS diarrhea. SE: acute ischemic colitis Alosetron
For Bipolar disorder. SE: nausea, vomit, diarrhea, renal fail, neuromusc dysfx,ataxia, tremor, confusion, delirium, seizure, diabetes insipidus, hypothyroidism, goiter. Dont take with NSAIDs Lithium
