Chapter 9&10 Motion

QuestionAnswer
speed The distance an object travels in one unit of time.
velocity The speed of an object in a certain direction.
average speed A measure of the total distance an object travels in the total amount of time.
motion The state in which one object's distance from another is changing.
acceleration The rate at which speed changes. It can mean increasing speed,decreasing speed or changing direction.
constant speed A state when the speed of an object does not change.
final velocity The ending velocity of an object.
initial velocity The beginning velocity of an object.
force A push or a pull.
inertia The tendency of an object to resist change in its motion.
gravity The force that pulls objects towards one another.
reference point A place or object used for comparison to determine if an object is in motion.
