Childhood 2-5/6. Development of language. A clear concept of mother, father and others develops. Reciprocity develops. Imaginary playmate common and is positive because it prepares for real friends without anxiety.
malevolent attitude as the child becomes ambulatory, it gets into things, creating increased possibilities for restriction, punishment and criticism.
Juvenile era 5-8.5 kids have groups of playmate equals. Kids learn to compete, cooperate and compromise.
Preadolescence 8.5-puberty. same sex chum. genuine mutual interest, trust, sharing of things & ideas. love without complication of lust and sexual motivation.
Early adolescence begins at puberty with arrival of lust. the desire for intimacy and security. lust and intimacy can be hard to bring together. (some people don't advance)
Late adolescence Bringing together love, intimacy and lust
adulthood according to Sullivan, if you can love you don't need a psychiatrist.
