What is adolescence? Adolescence is the time in the teenage years when children become adults through puberty.
changes in amygdala and what feelings it involves -grows quickly b/c of testosterone -involved with feelings of fear and anger -boys change more than girls (aggressiveness and irritability)
changes in prefrontal cortex and feelings it involves -still growing in late adolescence -organization and planning of behavior and anticipating of future events -may have to do with drug use, lack of foresight, and failure to recognize consequences and changes in cognitive functioning (routine behaviors)
changes in limbic system and feelings it involves -still growing in late adolescence -regulation of emotional behaviors and sexuality and memory -drug use, lack of foresight, and failure to recognize consequences and changes in routine behaviors -teens rely on for interpreting emotions
Early Adolescence -age 11-14 -childhood --> adolescence -dramatic changes in appearance
Late Adolescence -age 14-19 -adolescence --> adulthood
