Solid A solid is a state of matter; it has a definite shape and volume
Liquid A liquid is a state of matter in which has a definite volume but changing shape.
Gas A gas is a state of matter in which has changing shape and volume.
Kinetic Energy Energy that a object has due to it's motion.
Phase Change A reversible physical change that can occur when an object changes from one state to another.
Endothermic The system absorbs energy from it's surroundings.
Heat of Fusion One gram of ice absorbs about 334 Joules and melts, it varies from substance to substance.
Exothermic System releases energy to it's surroundings.
Vaporization When a substance changes from liquid to gas.
Heat of Vaporization One gram of water gains about 2258 joules at the temperature of 100 degrees Celsius. It varies from substance to substance
Evaporation When a substance turns from liquid to gas.
Vapor Pressure Pressure caused by collisions of vapor and the walls of the container.
Condensation When a gas/vapor changes into a liquid state of matter.
Sublimation Solid to gas/vapor without changing into it's liquid state .
Deposition Gas changes directly into a solid without changing into it's liquid state.
