CHAP 4: COMPOUNDS

QuestionAnswer
Compound A substance made of two or more elements chemically combined.
Covalent Bond A chemical bond formed when two atoms share valence electrons.
Double Bond A chemical bond formed when two atoms share two pairs of electrons with each other.
Ion An atom or group of atoms that is electrically charged. (Can be either positive or negative.)
Ionic Bond A chemical bond created by the transfer of electrons. The attraction between two oppositely charged ions.
Molecule A combination of two or more atoms that are bonded together.
Chemical Change A change in matter that produces new substances.
Chemical Bond The force that holds atoms together.
Polyatomic Ion An ion that is made up of more than one atom, but acts like one atom.
