QuestionAnswer
What is a liquid? a liquid is a substance that has a definite volume but not a definite shape.
What is a solid? A solid is a substance with a definite shape and a definite volume.
What is a gas? A material that does not have either a definite shape or volume.
How would you describe what kinetic energy is? kinetic energy is the energy that occurs when something is in motion.
what is pressure? Pressure is the result of a force distributed over an area.
what does Charles law state? Charles Law states that the volume of a gas is directly proportional to its temperature in kelvins if the pressure and the number of particles of the gas are constant.
At what temperature is absolute zero at? Absolute zero is at 0 degrees kelvin.
What does Boyle's law state? Boyle's law states that the volume of a gas is inversely proportional to its pressure if the temperature and the number of particles are constant.
What is a phase change? A phase change is a reversible physical change that occurs when a substance changes from one state of matter to another.
What is heat fusion another term for? It is another term for melting.
What does it mean to be exothermic? When something is releasing energy to is surroundings?
What does it mean to be endothermic? When a system absorbs energy from its surroundings.
What happens during vaporization? During vaporization a liquid turns into a gas.
what is heat vaporization? One gram of water gains 2261 joules of energy when it is vaporized. The amount of energy is heat of vaporization.
What is evaporation? The process that changes a substance from a liquid to a gas at a temperature below the substance's boiling point.
What is vapor pressure? The pressure caused by the collisions of this vapor and the walls of the container.
During sublimation what phase change is skipped? During sublimation a substance changed from a solid to a gas, it skips over the liquid change.
What phase change does the process of deposition skip? During the process of deposition a gas or vapor changes directly into a solid with out first becoming a liquid.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
