exposition The part of the plot that gives information about the characters and their problems or conflicts; usually found at the beginning of the story or play.
rising action This is the longest part of the story where the plot begins to thicken as the conflict unfolds.
climax The turning point in the story; the most intense part of the plot.
falling action The fallout from the climax.
resolution The end of the story.
