What is the digestive system composed of? A series of hollow organs connected in a long tub.
Where does the digestive system start and end? It extends from the mouth to the anus.
What is the stomach lined with? and what does it prevent? Lined with protective mucosa that prevents acid from causing sores or ulcers.
What do the tiny glands in mucosa do? Produce the liquid digestive juices that help digest food.
What is gastric acid? A secretion produced in the stomach
What is the pH in the stomach? 1 to 2
What is the MOA of H2 Receptor Agonist Drugs are absorbed & enter parietal cells of the stomach where they block histimine receptors in the stomach lining
What are major drug interactions in H2 receptor agonists? Affects cytochrome p450
What is the oldest H2 Drug? Cimetidine, Tagamet
In males, what can tagamet interfer with? Fertility
What h2 drug is 10-15x more potent than Tagamet? Ranitidine-Zantac
What is Ranitidine useful in the therepy of? peptic ulcers
What H2 drug has no effect on cytP450, causing less interactions? Famotidine-Pepcid
What do antacids do? Neutralize stomach acids forming a salt and water
What are examples of antacids? Tums, Alka-Seltzer, Polaids, Mylanta
