Exploring Motion's

Motion

QuestionAnswer
Speed is the rate of change in position
Instantaneous Speed is the rate of motion at any given instant
Constant Speed is the speed that does not vary or change
Average Speed is the total distance traveled divided by the time of travel
Speed only indicates how fast something is moving
Velocity describes both speed and direction of an object
Acceleration rate of change of velocity
Newton's First Law an object at a constant velocity keeps moving at that velocity unless a net force acts on it.
Friction is the force that opposes motion between two surfaces that are touching each other
Gravity a force. every object in the universe exerts a force on every other objects
Weight is the measure of the force of gravity
Newton is the unit to describe the force exerted by weight
Force is a push or pull one body exerts on another
Balanced Forces forces on an object that are equal in size and opposite in direction
Net Force always changes the velocity of an object
Inertia is the tendency of an object to resist any change in motion
Newton's Second Law a net force acting on causes the object to accelerate in the direction of the force
Gravity causes all falling object to accelerate to the ground
amount of air resistance depends on speed, size, shape, and density of an object
Terminal Velocity is the highest velocity that will be reached by a falling object
Projectile anything thrown or shot through the air
Horizontal Motion motion across, side to side, parallel to the earth
Vertical Motion motion downward, or perpendicular to the earth
centripetal acceleration acceleration toward the center of a curved or circular path is called
Free-Falling when an objects forces are balanced
Horizontal across the earth
Vertical up and down
Gravity pull down on earth
Energy do work
Kinetic Energy motion energy
Gravitational Potential Energy depends on height, weight, mass of object
Momentum mass on the move
Law of conservation of momentum momentum of object doesn't change
Elastic Potential Energy energy obtained from a stretched or compressed object

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
