Motion vocab.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Speed | Rate of change in position. Also called "rate of motion". Only indicates how fast something is moving. |
| Instantaneous Speed | The rate of motion at any given instant. |
| Constant Speed | Is the speed that does not vary or change. |
| Average Speed | Is the total distance traveled divided by the total time of travel. |
| Velocity | Describes both speed and direction of an object. |
| Acceleration | Rate of change of velocity. |
| Force | A push or pull one body exerts to another. |
| Balanced Force | forces on an object that are equal in size and opposite in direction. |
| Net Force | A force on an object that always changes the velocity of an object. |
| Interia | The tendency of an object to resist any change in motion. |
| Newton's First Law | An object moving at constant velocity keeps moving at that velocity unless a net force acts on it. |
| Friction | The force that opposes motion between two surfaces that are touching each-other. |
| Gravity | A force in which every object in the universe exerts a force on every other object. |
| Weight | Is the measure of the force of gravity. |
| Newton | The unit to describe the force exerted by weight. |
