Grade 6 Rocks and Minerals Definitions

| What is a rock? | A rock is a solid, natural material made up of one or more minerals. Scientists study them by looking at their color and their texture |
| Three types of rocks | Sedimentary, Metamorphic, Igneous |
| Igneous Rocks | Form when magma cools and hardens |
| Sedimentary Rocks | Form in layers... oldest at the bottom. Only rocks that can have fossils inside them. |
| Metamorphic Rocks | Forms when heat and pressure or chemical reactions change one type of rock into another type of rock. Ex.> Slate |
