QuestionAnswer
Pure Substance/Matter Matter that always has exactly the same composition; an element or compound.
Element A substance that can't be broken up into a simpler substance.
Atom The smallest piece of an element.
Compound Matter containing two or more elements joined together the same way every time.
Heterogeneous Mixture Substances that are usually not evenly distributed in which the parts are noticeably different from each other. Categories: Suspensions and Colloids.
Homogeneous Mixture Substances that are usually so evenly distributed that it is difficult to distinguish one substance from another. Categories: Solutions
Solution Substances that do not separate into layers over time, contain very small particles and do not scatter light.
Suspension Substances that contain large particles, can scatter light into all directions, and separate into layers after a period of time.
Colloid Substances that contain intermediate particles, do not separate into layers, and can scatter light.
