Furosemide (lasix)

Class sulfa-amide type loop diuretic
MOA stops the absorption of sodium and chloride in the proximal tubule and loop of henle
MOA cause rapid diuresis in 15-20 minutes
MOA causes venodilation-within 5 min (reduces preload)
MOA decreases renal vascular resistance=increased renal blood flow
MOA excretes Na,Ca,K,Mg,Cl,HCO3,HPO4
Indication Edema due to-CHF,cirrosis of liver,renal disease
Idication Cerebral edema
Indication Hypertensice emergencies
Contra Pregnancy
Contra Hypotension
COntra Electrolyte depletion
COntra Hypovolemia/dehydration
Contra Hypersensitivity to sulfa drugs
Contra Anuria (inhability to urinate)
How supplied 10mg/ml in 2,4,8 ml ampules or 10mg/ml in 10ml vial
DOsage 20-40 mg SIVP over 1-2 mins 0.5-1mg/kg if no responce 2nd dose 2mg/kg repeat in 1-2 hrs
