homogeneous mixture the substances are so evenly distributed that it is difficult to distinguish one substance form the other
solution when substances dissolve and form a homogeneous mixture
suspension a heterogeneous mixture that separates into layers over time
colloid contains some particles that are intermediate in size between the small particles in a solution and the larger particles in a suspension
matter anything that takes up space and has mass (the stuff objects are made of)
impure matter a substance which contains a mixture of elements
pure matter has a fixed uniform makeup (always made of the same things in the same amounts)
