Motion's Purpose

| To present an item of busines for consideration and action by the chapter | Main Motion |
| To temporarily delay action on an item of business | Lay on the Table |
| To terminate discussion on the motion or motions before the chapter and to secure an immediate vote | Previous Question |
| To place the question temporarily in a committee | Refer to a Committee |
| To modify the motion that is under consideration | Amend |
| To enforce the rules by calling attention to a violation of the rules or a mistake in procedure | Point of Order |
| To obtain a decision from the chapter to a question on which the presiding officer has made a decision | Appeal from decision of the Chair |
| to permit the chapter to do something that cannot be done without violating its standing rules | supsend standing rules |
| to determine the accuracy of a vote, especially when taken by voice or by show of hands | division of the assembly |
| to present the chapter the name of a candidate for a certain office or position | Nominations (And Elections) |
| To permit a member to gain parliamentary infomation. Infomation desired may pertain o the procedure for introducing business, rules governing a motion, action to take concerning a pending question, which motion to use, or effect of a motion | Parliamentary Inquiry |
