State of Matter
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Solid | an object that has a definate shape at room temperature |
| Liquid | Takes the shape of its container |
| Gas | Has a low density |
| Plasma | a gas that has been given an electrical charge |
| Kinetic-Molecular Theory | the forces between molecules and the energy that they possess |
| Endothermic | heat inside |
| Exothermic | heat outside |
| Melting | a process that results in the phase change of a substance from a solid to a liquid |
| Melting Point | a crystalline solid is the temperature range at which it changes state from solid to liquid |
| Freezing | the process whereby a liquid turns to a solid |
| Freezing Point | the temperature at which the liquid changes state from a liquid to a solid |
| Vaporization | Water vapor that has evaporated |
| Evaporation | water vapor rising |
| Boiling | a type of phase transition, is the rapid vaporization of a liquid, which typically occurs when a liquid is heated to its boiling point |
| Boiling Point | the temperature at which its vapor pressure is equal to the pressure of the gas above it |
| Condensation | the change in matter of a substance to a denser phase |
| Sublimation | a transition from the solid to gas phase with no intermediate liquid stage |
| Deposition | Phase change from a gas to a solid |
