QuestionAnswer
What is a pure substance? Matter that always has exactly the same composition, is classified as a pure substance, or just a substance.
What is an element? An element is a substance that CAN'T be broken down into simpler substances.
What is an atom? An atom is the smallest partical of an element.
What is a compound? A compound is a substance that is made from two or more simpler substances that CAN be broken down into those simpler substances.
What is a heterogeneous mixture? Inside a heterogeneous mixture, the parts of the mixture are noticeably different from one another. (easy to notice)
What is a homogeneous mixture? Inside a homogeneous mixture, the substances are so evenly distributed that it is DIFFICULT to distinguish one substance in the mixture from another.
What is a solution? A solution is when substances dissolve and form a homogeneous mixture known as the solution.
What is a suspension? A suspension is a heterogeneous mixture that separates into layers over time.
What is a colloid? A colloid contains some particles that are intermediate in size between the small particles in a solution and the larger particles in a suspension.
