What is a pure substance? matter that always has the exactly same composition
What is an element? a substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances
what is an atom? is the smallest particle of an element
what is a compound? a substance that is made from two or more simpler substances and can be broken down into smaller substances
what is heterogeneous mixture? the parts of the mixture that are noticeably different from one another
what is homogeneous mixture? is the substances are so evenly distributed that is difficult to distinguish one substance in the mixture from an other
what is solution? is the mixture formed when substances dissolve and form a homogenous mixture
what is suspension? is a heterogeneous mixture that separates into layers over time.
what is colloids? contains some particles that are intermediate in size between the small particles in a solution and the larger particles in a suspension.
what is phycial property? is anycharacteristics of a material that can be observed or measured without changeing the composition of the substances in the material
what is viscosity? is the tendency of a liquids flowing
what is conductivity? is a materical ability to allow heat to flow
what is malleability? the ability of a solid to be hammered without shattering
what is melting point? the temputure wich a substance changes from a solid to liquid
what is a boiling point? at which a substance boils
what is filtration? process that separates materials based on there size od particles
what is distillation? the process that seperates the substance in a solution based on thier boiling points
what is phycial change? occurs when some of the properties change
what is chemical change? is any ability to produce a change in matter
what is flammability? is a materials ability to burn in the presence of oxygen
what is reactivity? describes how readily a substance combines chemically with another substance
what is chemical change? occurs when a substance reacts and forms one or more new substances
what is precipite? any solid that forms and separtes from a liquid mixure
