Qtr 1 Lit Terms

QuestionAnswer
Setting Time and place of the story
Characters People, animals, or other "actors" in story
Conflict The main character's struggle with himself, another character, society, or nature
Internal conflict Character vs. self; struggle inside or within oneself
External conflict Character vs. character; character vs. nature; character vs. society; struggle outside oneself
Inciting Force The event that triggers the conflict
Rising Action The series of events that builds and leads to the climax
Climax The high point or turning point at which the outcome of the conflict can be predicted
Falling Action The events after the climax which lead to the resolution and close the story
Exposition The beginning of the story which introduces the setting, characters, and provides background information too
Resolution The final outcome; tells how the conflict is solved
