QuestionAnswer
what is an electron? electron is a negative charge subatomic particle that is found in the space outside in the nucleus of an atom.
what properties can be used to compare protons, electrons and neutrons? charges, mass, and location
what is a neutron? a neutron is a neutral subatomic particle that is found in the nucleus of an atom.
how are atoms of one element different from other elements? atoms of different elements have number of different protons
what is atomic number? atomic number of an element equals the number of protons in an atom of that element
what is the difference between two isotopes of the same element? isotopes of an element has the same atomic number but differ in mass because they have different number of neutrons
what are isotopes? isotope are atoms with the same element that have different number of neutrons and different mass
what is mass number? mass number is the total number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus of that atom
how can atoms be neutral if they contain charged particles? it is because they have equal number of positive and negative charge atom
what is a proton? protons is a positive charge subatomic particle that is found in the nucleus of an atom.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
