| Temperature | the measurement used to quantify the sensations of hot and cold; it is related to the average kinetic energy of the object’s molecules. |
| Radiation | the direct transfer of energy by electromagnetic waves |
| Specific Heat | the property of a substance that tells us how much heat is needed to raise the temperature of one gram by one degree Celsius. |
| Calorie | a unit of heat energy. The quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of one gram of water by 1°C. |
| Joule | a unit of heat energy. A unit for measuring work; a joule is equal to one newton of force times one meter of distance; the abbreviation is J. |
| British Thermal Unit (BTU) | a unit of heat energy. The quantity of heat it takes to increase the temperature of one pound of water by 1°F. |
