Beat the steady pulse of all music
Quarter Note one beat of sound
Quarter Rest one beat of silence
Bar Line vertical line that groups notes and rests together
Measure the space between bar lines
Meter way of organizing rhythm
Time Signature set of numbers at the beginning of a piece of music
Staff five lines and four spaces on which music is written
Clef symbol at the beginning of a staff that indicates which line and spaces represent which notes
Treble Clef clef that generally indicates notes higher than middle C
Bass Clef a clef that generally indicates notes lower than middle C
Grand Staff a staff that is created when two staves are joined together
Scale Group of pitches that are sung or played in sucession that are based on a particular home tone or tonic
Key determined by its home tone or tonic
Rhythm combination of long and short notes and rests
Half Note note that indicates two beats of sound
Half Rest rest that represents two beats of silence
