| Clef | symbol at the beginning of a staff that indicates which line and spaces represent which notes |
| Treble Clef | clef that generally indicates notes higher than middle C |
| Bass Clef | a clef that generally indicates notes lower than middle C |
| Grand Staff | a staff that is created when two staves are joined together |
| Scale | Group of pitches that are sung or played in sucession that are based on a particular home tone or tonic |
| Key | determined by its home tone or tonic |
| Rhythm | combination of long and short notes and rests |
| Half Note | note that indicates two beats of sound |
| Half Rest | rest that represents two beats of silence |
