Expedition A journey made for a certain purpose.
Christopher Columbus Italian explorer, sponsored by Spain. Hoped to find a water route to Asia but landed in North American islands (Caribbean).

Northwest Passage Europeans searched for a quicker route to Asia and wanted to find a Northwest water route (passage)
Native Americans )Native American tribes who were living in North America for years before Europeans. Natives and Europeans had positive and negative interactions.
Bartering The trading of goods for goods
Colony A settlement far away from the country that rules it.
Spices Spices from Asia were valuable because they helped preserve food and made it taste better.
Merchants were people looking to make a profit which means they had extra money after the costs of running a business.
Conquistador Someone who conquered a territory. Many came from Spain to Mexico.
Columbian Exchange The exchange of food, crops, good, diseases and ideas between The New World and Europe after Columbus’ expedition.
Tools for exploration An explorer needs to read a map, use tools like a astrolabe and know how to write in a journal.
Empire An area in which different groups of people are controlled by one ruler or government is called a
