Terms that you must know in UI and UX Design
Term | Definition |

Constraint | Anything that might stop us from moving forward with a particular idea. |
Dark patterns | User interfaces that are deliberately designed to trick users. |
Design criteria | Are the specific goals a design must achieve to be successful. |
Design thinking | A set of techniques and processes for creative problem solving. |
Intuitive | Something that is easy to understand and use with little or no explanation. |
UI | User Interface, something designed to allow users to interact with machines and software. |
Usability | How user-friendly a product is, or how well it is able to be used. |
User | The person or group of people who will use the product or service. |
User story | A short description of what a user will do with a product or service. |
Utility | How well a product solves a user's problem. |
UX | User eXperience, how a user interacts with or experiences a product or service. |
Wireframe | A basic, 2-D representation of a web page, app interface, or product layout. |
White space | Is the area between design elements where there are neither UI elements nor specific content. |
Visual hierarchy | Means to place the most important elements large and in a central part of the design or use colour to highlight a UI element. |
UI element | The parts that make up an app or website interface. |
Typography | Arranging letters and text in a way that makes it clear, and visually appealing to the reader. |
Text alignment | The horizontal alignment of text. Text can be aligned to the left, right, or centre of the page. |
Style guide: | Also called a branding guide, presents guidelines for the appearance of an app or website, including colours, fonts, and branding. |
Serif | A small line or stroke attached to letters in some fonts. |
Reading gravity | The pattern our eyes follow when looking at a page. We naturally read left to right, top to bottom. |
