Age of Exploration A time period in the 1400-1600's. Many people from Europe began to explore the Earth and North America
Atlantic Ocean It was difficult for Europeans to cross because it was rough and long
Vikings One of the first European groups to discover North America (Greenland). They came from Norway and Sweden in search of fame, money, and glory
Expedition A journey made for a certain purpose
Christopher Columbus Italian explorer, sponsored by Spain. Hoped to find a water route to Asia but landed in North America islands (Caribbean)
Columbus ships Sailed on the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria
Reasons for exploring North America in the 1400-1600's Northwest Passage; Trading; Money; Control of new Territory; Spices
Northwest Passage Europeans searched for a quicker route to Asia and wanted to find a Northwest route (passage)
Native Americans Native American tribes who were living in North America for years before Europeans. Natives and Europeans had positive and negative interactions
Bartering The trading of goods for goods
Colony A settlement far away from the country that rules it.
Spices Spices from Asia were valuable because they helped preserve food and made it taste better
Merchants Were people looking to make a profit which means they had extra money over after costs of running business
Conquistador Someone who conquered territory. Many came from Spain to Mexico
Combain Exchange The exchange of food, crops,goods, diseases, and ideas between the New world (North/South America) and Europeans after Columbus expedition
