liberalism | a late 18 century political movement that sought to break the country away from older traditions of monarchy, mercantilism.. |
radicalism | the idea that social systems need to undergo major, even violent, changes in order to bring equality to society. |
ancien regime | French for "old regime" referred to the old monarchy before the Revolution |
factors of production | land (resources), labor (human efforts), capital (money, manufacture of products) |
division of labor | the capitalist method of organizing labor into the most efficient means into producing a finished good |
bourgeoisie | Karl Marx; the class that controls factories and the means of production |
proletariat | the working class |
socialism | a system in which society, usually the government, owns and controls the means of production |
utopia | is an imagined community or society that possesses highly desirable or nearly perfect qualities for its citizens |
enlightened absolutism | a term used to describe monarchs such as Fredrick the great of Prussia who used the Enlightenment principles in the hopes of benefiting their subjects and expanding their powers |
