L-spine posit
L-spine positioning for comp
Question | Answer |
---|---|
AP L-spine positioning | center MSP, align shoulders and hips. Bend knees and hips to reduce lordosis |
CR entry AP L-spine | perpendicular entering L3, 1 1/2” above the iliac crests. Expose on expiration |
Lateral L-spine positioning | center MCP, flex hips and knees, ensure spine is horizontal |
CR entry lateral L-spine | CR entering L3 (1 ½” above the crests). Can use a 5 degree caudad angle for men, 8 degrees for women |
CR entry L5,S1 spot | 2” posterior and 1 ½” inferior to elevated ASIS. Angle 5 degrees caudad on males and 8 degrees on females |
Oblique L-spine positioning and CR entry | 45 degree obliquity, CR entering 2” medial to the elevated ASIS and 1 ½” superior to the crests |
External landmark for L2, L3 | inferior costal margin |
External landmark for L4, L5 | superior iliac crests |
External landmark for S1, S2 | ASIS |
External landmark for coccyx | pubic symphysis |
eval criteria for AP L-spine | lower T-spine to sacrum included, collimated to lateral psoas muscles, open IV joint spaces, equidistant SI joints, spinous processes centered, penetration and no artifact. |
eval criteria for lateral L-spine | lower T-spine to sacrum, open IV joint spaces, superimposed posterior body, vertebrae centered on image, nearly superimposed iliac crests, spinous process in profile |
eval criteria for spot film L-spine | open lumbosacral joint, entire L5 and upper sacrum, close collimation |
