Explain the effect Russia’s size, climate, and few navigable rivers has on its economy. Russia has many navigable rivers but unfortunately it is difficult to get the natural resources found in the north to the south of west due to the rivers freezing over in the winter.
Why is it hard for Russia to use their natural resources? While Russia is rich in natural resources, it is difficult and expensive to extract them from the northern regions due to the cold climate and frozen ground

Who built the Berlin wall? The Communist East German authorities built a wall that totally encircled West Berlin
Why did the Berlin wall come down? The cold war was ending so they decided to take the wall down
Why did JFK put a naval blockade around Cuba? Kennedy decided to place a naval blockade, or a ring of ships, around Cuba. The aim of this "quarantine," as he called it, was to prevent the Soviets from bringing in more military supplies.
What is the iron curtain? The iron curtain means that the Eastern and Central European Communist countries were now divided with the Western European Democratic countries.
Why did JFK and Nikita Khrushchev both stop the cold war? Leaders of both superpowers recognized the devastating possibility of a nuclear war and publicly agreed to a deal in which the Soviets would dismantle the weapon sites in exchange for a pledge from the United States not to invade Cuba.
What is the European Union? A group of 28 countries that operates as a cohesive economic and political block
What does supranational mean? The laws of the European Union are ABOVE the laws of your own country.
What does common market mean? The EU countries got rid of tariffs , which means they don’t put taxes on goods that pass from one border country to the next
What is the Copenhagen Criteria? The standards a country must meet to be accepted into the EU
What are the four Copenhagen criteria? Country must have a democratic government Must protect human rights and minorities in their country Country must have a functioning Market Economy ( Capitalism) The country must be able to incorporate the entire body of laws and regulations of the EU
Name one centripetal economic feature. No tariffs, EU prices on goods are lower
Name one centrifugal economic feature. Higher pay in Western Europe
Name one centripetal political feature. Encourages political cooperation among members
