Vocabulary

This has all my math vocabulary on it!

TermDefinition
Proportion~ An equation stating that two ratios or rates are equivalent.
Origin~ The point of intersection of the x-axis and the y-axis in a coordinate system.
Algebra~ A mathematical language that uses symbols, usually letters, along with numbers. The letters stand for numbers.
Area~ The number of square units needed to cover an enclosed surface.
Equation~ A mathematical sentence that contains an equal (=) sign.
Mean~ The sum of the numbers in a set of data divided by the number of pieces of data.
Ratio~ The distance from the center of the circle to any point on the circle.
Yard~ A customary unit of length equal to three (3) feet, or 36 inches.
Order of Operations~ The rules that tell which operation to perform first when more than one operation is used. (PEMDAS)
Diameter~ The distance across a circle through a circle.
Rhombus~ A parallelogram with all sides congruent.
Quadrants~ One of the four regions in a coordinate plane separated be the x-axis and the y-axis.
Mode~ The number(s) or item(s) that appear most often in a set of data.
Perimeter~ The distance around any closed geometric figure.
Exponent~ In a power, the number of times the base is used as a factor.
Variable~ A symbol, usually a letter , used to represent a number. (x : y)
Percent~ A ratio that compares a number to 100.
Circumference~ The distance around a circle.
Foot/Feet~ A customary unit of length equal to 12 inches.
Median~ The middle number in a set of data when the data
Equivalent~ Having the same value.
Mixed Number~ The sum of a whole number and a fraction.
Reciprocals~ Any two numbers that have a product of 1.
Chord~ A segment with endpoints that are on a circle.
Obtuse Angle~ An angle that is greater than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees.
Ratio~ A comparison of two quantities by division.
Decimal~ Numbers that have digits in the tenths , hundreds , and thousandths.
Data value~ A value that is much higher or lower than other numbers in a set of data.
Improper Fraction~ When the numerator is larger than the denominator.
Ordered Pair~ The numbers used to locate a point in a coordinate system.
