onomatopoeia | Using words that makes sounds Ex: boom |
hyperbole | exaggeration Ex. My teacher gave us a ton of homework |
alliteration | use of the same consonant at the beggining of each stressed syllable Ex. She sells sea shells by the sea shore |
idiom | an expression whose meanings cannot be inferred from the meaning s of words that make it up |
irony | incongruity between what might be expected and what actually ocucurs |
symbolism | the practice of investing things with symbolic meaning |
imagery | the ability to form mental images of things or events |
