What is a nosocomial infection? This is also known as health care-acquired infection (HAI) and it is an infection acquired by patients (susceptible hosts) while they are in the hospital, unrelated to the condition for which the patients were hospitalized. (Radiography Prep book pg 37)
What is the reservoir of an infection? Any environment where these pathogens can survive and reproduce, ultimately posing a risk of transmission to a susceptible host. (Radiography Prep book pg 37)
Examples of reservoirs of infection. A patient with active tuberculosis, a visitor with an upper respiratory infection, a health care professional with conjunctivitis, etc. (Radiography Prep book pg 37)
What are the three main modes of transmission? Droplet, airborne, and contact (Radiography Prep book pg 38)
