What does medieval mean? Of the Middle Ages
What is feudalism? A system of power in Europe during the Middle Ages
What are the Middle Ages? The years between ancient and modern times; from A.D. 500 until 1500
Who is a vassal? A man who promised to be loyal to a landowner
What is a manor? A large estate, often including a village and farmlands, ruled by the lord
What does self-sufficient mean? Able to supply one's own needs
What is a serf? A person who lived on and farmed a lord's land during feudal times
When did the Western Roman empire fall and what began? The western Roman Empire fell in 476 and the Middle Ages began
How long did the Middle Ages last? A.D. 500 until about 1500
What were the Middle Ages divided into? Dark Ages and Later Ages
What were the Dark Ages? A time of disaster, that lasted from the year 476 through 1000
What were the Later Ages? A period of growth and cultural achievement that began in 1000 and ended in the 1400's
