Chapter 2 Bushong

Fundamentals of Radiologic Science

QuestionAnswer
Length The meter is based on the speed of light
Mass The kilogram is a unit of mass
Time The second(s) is based on the vibration of atoms of cesium
Velocity Equation V=d/t
Acceleration The rate of change of velocity with time
Acceleration equation -A=Vf-Vo/T...unit is meters per second squared
Newtons 1st law Body at rest will stay at rest, a body in motion will stay in motion until acted on by an outside force
Newtons 2nd law The force applied to move an object is equal to the mass of the object multiplied by the acceleration
Force equation F=ma
Newtons 3rd law For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction
Weight formula Wt=mg
Weight is... the product of mass and the accerleration of gravity on earth is measured in newtons.
Momentum The prodcut of mass and velocity. Total momentum b4 an interaction is equal to the total momentum after the interaction
Momentum equation -P=mv
Work Product of force and distance. W=fd. Unit Joule
Power is the rate of doing work. The quotient of work by time
Power equation P=work/t=Fd/t. Unit J/s
Energy Ability to do work. Energy can be changed from 1 form to another but it cannot be created nor destroyed
KE equation KE=1/2xmv2
Potential energy PE=mgh. h is the distance above the earths surface
Heat form or energy, its the KE of the random motion of molecules. Unit of heat is a calorie
Kelvin The scientific scaled based on absolute 0
Conduction Transfer of heat by a material or touching
Convection The mechanical transfer of Hot molecules in a gas or liquid form from 1 place to another
Radiation The transfer of heat by the emission of infrared radiation
Celcius Tc=5/9(Tf-32)
Fahrenheit Tf=9/5Tc+32
Kelvin Tk=Tc+273
