What is explanatory design? | Examines where changes in one variable reflect changes in another |
What is a predictor variable? | Used to make a forecast about an outcome |
What is a criterion variable? | Outcome being predicted |
Positive correlation | X and Y increase |
Negative Correlation | X increase and y decreases |
Linear Positive | Low scores of X correlate w/low scores of Y |
Linear Negative | Low scores of X associated with high scores of Y (negative relationship) |
Uncorrelated | X and Y are independent |
Curvilinear | Increase, plateau and decline |
Degree of Association | Reflects whether there is a consistent, predictable association between scores |
.20-.35 | Slight relationship |
.35-.65 | Useful for limited prediction |
