CDROM drive | small box with motor that reads what is on a CD-ROM with a laser |
data | pieces of info, the computer uses software to change data |
program | another word for program. it is a list of instructions |
Operating system (os) | tells the programs what to do |
BIOS | little alarm clock in computer (turns it on) |
motherboard | hold it all together |
CPU central processing unit | serving as the brain of the computer. gets very hot w/ ot fan |
ROM | read only memory (only reads) |
RAM | random access memory (reads and writes) |
power supply | gives electricity to the computer |
modem | connects computers to eachother |
port | hardwarwe plugs into it like keyboard or mouse |
video cord | allows graphics to be displayed on the monitor |
power plug | used to provide in the computer and out to the monitor |
parallel port | an electrical connector that is used to send info on wires at the same time to a printer |
serial port | used to connect older or specialized devices. sends parts of a message, examples: barcode scanner. |
network interface cars (nic)(ethernet) | a cable connection |
universal serial bus (usb) | external bus that transfers MBPS |
