Physical Map | Helps you see the types of landforms and bodies of water found in a specific area |
Political Map | Show features on the earth’s surface that humans have created |
Qualitative Map | Use color, symbols, dots or lines to help you see patterns related to a specific idea |
Cartograms | Information about a country is based on a set of data other than land area |
Flow line map | Illustrate movement of people, goods, ideas, animals, or even glaciers. Usually shown in a series of arrows |
Location | Answers the question “Where is it?” |
Place | Answers the question “What is it like?” |
Region | Answers the question “How are places similar or different?” |
Movement | Answers the question “How do people, goods, and ideas move from one location to another?” |
Human-Environment Interaction | Answers the question “How do people relate to the physical world?” |
Latitude line | Lines which run parallel to the equator |
Longitude line | Lines which go over the poles |
Relative location | Describes a place in comparison to other places around it. |
Absolute location | The exact place on earth where a geographic feature is found. |
Geography | The study of the distribution and interaction of physical and human features on the earth. |
Map | Two dimensional representation of the earth |
Prime meridian | Imaginary line that divides the earth east and west |
Hemisphere | Half of the globe…examples: eastern, western, northern, and southern |
Globe | A three dimensional representation of the earth |
Equator | Imaginary line that divides the earth into northern and southern halves |
