marrow | The spaces in bones that contain a soft connective tissue. |
cartilage | a connective tissue that is more flexible than bone and that gives support to some parts of the body |

MRI | a method for taking clear images of both of the bones and soft tissues of the body. |
Preventing skeletal system injuries | Simple preventive measures include warming up before exercises, wearing protective gear, and exercising in safe places. |

voluntary muscles | muscles that are under your control. |
muscle tissue | three kinds of tissue: skeletal, smooth, and cardiac. |
skeletal muscles | a muscle that is attached to the bones of the skeleton. |
tendon | a strong connective tissue that attaches muscle to bone. |
smooth muscles | involuntary. They work automatically to control many types of movements. |
cardiac muscle | has characteristics in common with both smooth and skeletal muscles. |

epidermis | the outermost layer of the skin. |
melanin | a pigment, or colored substance, that gives skin its color. |
dermis | the lower layer of the skin. |

follicles | structures within the dermis. |
skin care | eat properly, drink enough water, limit your exposure to the sun, and keep your skin clear and dry. |
cancer | a disease in which some body cells divide uncontrollably. |
