| Carbohydrates | broken down into glucose to feed our body’s cells. They provide fuel to give our bodies energy. |
| Starch | found in nature in the form of wheat, rice, and potatoes |
| Sugar | Naturally occurring like those in milk or fruit and added sugars like in regular soda, sweets and baked goods. |
| Fiber | the indigestible part of plant foods that do not produce energy, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and legumes |
| Simple Carbohydrate | quick releasing but short-term energy |
| Complex Carbohydrates | break down slower = long-lasting energy |
| Proteins | Proteins are used mainly to help the body grow and repair worn-out or damaged parts. |
| Amino Acids | Chemical building blocks that make protein |
