| Term | Definition |
| Fraction | a portion of something, not a whole number. |
| Numerator | The top number in a fraction. |
| Denominator | The bottom number in a fraction. |
| Whole | When the numerator and the denominator are the same. |
| Equivalent fraction | When two fractions are equal to each other. |
| Common Denominator | If fractions have the same denominator then they have a common denominator. |
| Equivalent Fraction | fractions that are equal or the same. |
| Fraction bar | The line that separates the numerator and denominator. |
| Unit Fraction | A fraction whose numerator is 1. |
| Improper fraction | A fraction whose numerator is larger than the denominator. |
