Intro to Fractions

This is an introduction to fractions

TermDefinition
Fraction a portion of something, not a whole number.
Numerator The top number in a fraction.
Denominator The bottom number in a fraction.
Whole When the numerator and the denominator are the same.
Equivalent fraction When two fractions are equal to each other.
Common Denominator If fractions have the same denominator then they have a common denominator.
Equivalent Fraction fractions that are equal or the same.
Fraction bar The line that separates the numerator and denominator.
Unit Fraction A fraction whose numerator is 1.
Improper fraction A fraction whose numerator is larger than the denominator.
