| Term | Definition |
| Free Fall | downwards acceleration due to the force of gravity (-9.8m/s^2) |
| Mass | total matter (stuff) found within an object |
| Direction | can be positive (up, right, north, or east) or negative (down, left, south, or west) |
| Horizontal | right/east or left/west motion (x-axis) |
| Vertical | up/north or down/south motion (y-axis) |
| Components | two or more vectors (arrows) |
| Vector Addition | produces the resultant of a vector's components |
| Resultant | the sum of two or more vectors' components (displacement) |
| Displacement | an object's distance from its origin and its direction (a.k.a. position) |
| Origin | an object's starting point |
| Vector Diagram | model including a vector's components and resultant arrows |
| Plane | either the x- or y-axis |
| Parallel | vectors found within the same plane (1D), either both horizontal or both vertical |
| Perpendicular | vectors found in different planes (2D), one horizontal and the other vertical |
| Pythagorean Theorem | calculates the resultant of two perpendicular vectors (hypotenuse of a right triangle) a^2+b^2=c^2 |
| Two-Dimensional Motion | objects moving both vertically (up/down) and horizontally (left/right) |
| Range | distance from where a projectile was launched to where it hits the ground |
| Projectile | object influenced only by gravity after it has been fired, thrown, launched, dropped, etc. |
| Height | vertical distance between the ground and a projectile's peak |
| Peak | highest point a projectile reaches above the ground |
| Air Resistance | drag force that is opposite of the direction a projectile moves through the air |
| Parabola | shape of an angled projectile's trajectory |
| Trajectory | path that a projectile travels through the air |
| Launch Angle | measured from the horizontal at the origin of a projectile's trajectory |
| Terminal Velocity | constant speed that a free falling object eventually reaches once the air resistance equals the force of gravity pulling it down |
| Scalar | has magnitude ONLY (ex: distance, speed, time, mass, etc.) |
| Vector | has magnitude AND direction (ex: position/displacement, velocity, acceleration, etc.) |
| Horizontal Projectile | object moving sideways while falling down |
| Distance | total change in an object's position |
| Vacuum | region of space without any air |
| Magnitude | size or amount (number) |
