Vocabulary Term | Definition |
motion | An object's change in position over time when compared with a reference point. |
speed | The rate at which an object moves; speed depends on the distance traveled and the time taken to travel that distance. |
acceleration | The rate of change in speed or velocity. An object accelerates if its speed changes, if its direction changes, or if both its speed and its direction change. |
force | A push or a pull that acts on an object. |
momentum | An object in motion will continue its movement until a force acts on it. |
distance | How far it is between two points. |
gravity | An invisible force of attraction between objects that is due to their mass. |
mass | The amount of matter that something is made of; its value does not change with the object's location in the universe. |
Newton | A famous scientist who studied and explained many of the forces of nature. His ideas include the three laws of motion. |
