| Geologist | A person who studies rocks and minerals and study’s Earth’s crust how the Earth changes over time. |
| Mineral | solid, non-living material found in nature that has a definite chemical makeup |
| Rock | solid, non-living material found in nature that is made up of minerals |
| Lava | melted rock above Earth’s crust |
| Magma | melted rock below Earth’s crust |
| Sediment | pieces of rock that can be either gravel, silt, and or clay; |
| Igneous Rock | formed when magma cools. 2 Types-Intrusive(formed inside the Earth) and Extrusive(formed outside the Earth) |
| Sedimentary Rock | formed when sediment is compacted and cemented together over a period of time; can tell us about things in the past |
| Metamorphic Rock | formed under Earth’s surface by an intense heat and pressure. Both Igneous and Sedimentary can become Metamorphic rock. |
