Term | Definition |
Government | Any group of people living together in a country, state, or community that has to live by a set of rules |
Military | The armed forces of a country |
Congress | A group of elected officials who meet to discuss, debate, and pass laws |
President | The head of the government and chief officer |
Constitution | A set of rules that guide how a country works (how the branches of government work, what powers they have, and states the rights of citizens) |
Elected | To choose someone to hold pubic office by voting |
Independence | Freedom, not being controlled by others |
Petition | A written document that many people sign to show that they want a person to do or change something |
Allies | To unite or form a friendly connection with another person, business, or country |
Revolution | A sudden or complete change in a way that people live or work |
Compromise | An agreement that is reached by each side giving in, or coming to an understanding that benifts both sides |
Liberty | The power to choose what you want to do. Having the ability to act and speak freely |
