Volcano | A mountain with a crater in the top, formed from the mantle. |
Ash | Dust and dirt made from burned materials. |
Lava | Molten rock on the surface of the earth. |
Magma | Molten rock under the surface of the earth. |
The Ring of Fire | The ring of volcanoes in the pacific ocean. |
Magma Chamber | The huge chamber of molten rock under the volcano. |
Vent | The long "throat" of the volcano that the magma surges up through. |
Crater | The hole in the top of a volcano. |
Secondary Volcanoes | Smaller volcanoes in the side of the mountain. |
Eruption | An explosion within the volcano, blasting hot lava, ash, and debris everywhere. |
Shield Volcanoes | Volcanoes named for their flat, shield like shape. |
Cone Volcanoes | Volcanoes formed over time through layers of cooled magma and ash. |
Cinder Cone Volcanoes | Craters that spew out large quantities of ash, they grow rapidly into enormous mountains of ash. |
Volcanic Islands | Islands made from underwater volcanoes |
