Microphone | A TRANSDUCER that changes acoustic energy into electrical energy |
*Mic Pre-Amp | - ACTIVE volume control - adds about 60 dB of gain - brings mic up to line level |
Mic/Line Select Swtich | Chooses source |
*Line Pre-Amp | - ACTIVE volume control - adjusts line level |
Phase Reversal Switch | changes plarity by 180 degrees |
Filter | PASSIVE tone control |
Equalizer | ACTIVE tone control |
*Input Fader | - PASSIVE volume control - Controls the signal going into the Bussing Network |
Buss Pan | chooses position in stereo panorama or odd/even panorama |
*Bussing Network | - (includes L/R or Stereo Buss) A group of switches that connect signals in a channel to a specific wire (buss): 1. Chooses destination 2. Is an ACTIVE combining network |
Buss | a wire that carries a signal (usually to the multitrack) |
*Submaster Fader | - PASSIVE volume control - Controls the output of the buss |
Meter | Visual display of signal strength |
*Multi-track Recorder | - Storage device for individual and combined audio signals - Can be tape or hard-disk based |
Stereo Buss | collecting point for all signals going out the left and right outputs of the stereo outputs |
*Master Fader | - PASSIVE volume control - Controls the output of the Stereo Buss - Used for fade-outs and fade-ins |
2-Track Recorder | Storage device for the master recording |
Monitor Select Switches | Chooses which signal goes to the control room monitors |
Power Amplifier | Brings Line level up to speaker level |
*Speakers | - TRANSDUCER that changes electrical energy to acoustic energy - Control Room monitors |
Auxiliary Send | Individual volume control for an extra output from a channel |
Auxiliary Master | Master volume control for the extra output |
*Outboard Gear | - Any component not found on a console that must be patched into the signal flow - Examples: 1. Effect devices 2. Signal processing devices |
Return | Line level input to a console with access to the Stereo Buss |
Unity Gain | fader position where input equals output |
*Patch Point | - Access to the signal flow of a channel - Any jack providing access to a signal |
*Insert Point | - The most common access point to a channel's signal flow - the pair of jacks usually found as EQ OUT/FADER IN |
