Term | Definition |
Watershed | The line of high ground that separates water flowing in one direction from another. |
Drainage Basin | The area drained by a river system. |

Channel | The depression where water flows; the path a river takes. |
Floodplain | Flat, low-lying area near a river or stream that may be regularly flooded. |
Meander | A loop or bend in a river. |
Riverbank | The land on the sides of the river. |
River bed | The bottom of a river. |
Delta | A plain formed by a deposit of sediment where a river enters a lake or ocean, typically in a triangular shape. |
Mouth | The part of the river where it flows into a larger body of water. |
